Foreign country in Kyiv

Traveling abroad with your pet will be easy if you prepare the necessary documents in advance and provide your furry friend with comfortable conditions. A list of certificates, approximate processing costs, and full information about each stage are below.лі.

Animal chipping

A microchip is a unique code that contains all the necessary information about an animal: its name, date of birth, sex and breed of the animal, International Passport number, full name of the owner, residential address and contact details in the form of a phone number and e-mail.

All data is entered into the Unified International Register of Chipped Animals and in two languages: Ukrainian and English. The main task of the microchip is to identify the animal.

Animal chipping is required when leaving and traveling abroad: without an installed microchip, it is impossible to pass passport control and leave the country. Since 2004, the import of animals without a chip into the territory of the European Union has been prohibited; these measures are necessary in order to eradicate homeless animals in the most humane way – to give them a home and give full responsibility to the owner.

International veterinary passport

Since June 1, 2018, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine has approved a unified form of a veterinary and sanitary passport for pets.

The veterinary passport of the International sample must contain the following information: date of birth, name of the animal, breed, color, date of birth, electronic microchip number (date of implantation and location of the chip), photo (optional).

The passport must necessarily contain a vaccination history (name of vaccines, certified by the signature and seal of a veterinarian.

Minimum 2 vaccinations against viral diseases, minimum 1 vaccination against rabies. Vaccinations must be done no less than 30 days and no more than a year before entering the country).

The information about the owner must indicate: full name, residential address, postcode, telephone number. And, most importantly, each international passport has its own numbering and must be filled out in one of the European languages.

When processing a document in our Veterinary Hub, they will fill out the form with you, check the information and provide you with confidence: the passport will be ready on time and according to the data provided.

Our veterinary hub offers 2 options for processing an International passport:

1. Processing a Veterinary Passport within 7 business days.

2. Processing a Veterinary Passport within 24-48 hours.

To fill out the form for obtaining an International passport, you need to be examined by a doctor and have the animal’s chip read using a scanner. Also, if your pet does not have a microchip, the manipulation of animal chipping is performed with entry into the International Register of Chipped Animals.

Availability of rabies vaccination and comprehensive vaccination

The presence of vaccination against rabies and comprehensive vaccination against viral diseases.

One of the main points for crossing the border with a pet is vaccination of the animal. Vaccination is the introduction of antigenic material into the animal’s body in order to prevent infection or reduce the clinical manifestations of an infectious disease. Vaccination against rabies and comprehensive vaccination against viral diseases – vaccination should be carried out only in a veterinary clinic. Only those vaccines that are certified in Ukraine are allowed to be used. Appropriate stickers must be made in the veterinary passport, which must be certified by the doctor’s signature and the clinic’s seal. List of approved rabies vaccinations:

• BIOCAN R

• BIOCAN RL

• BIOCAN DHPPI + RL

Treating your pet for ecto- and endo-parasites

Many people do not pay attention to the stickers that are provided with veterinary drugs against fleas, ticks and helminths. But we draw your attention to the fact that this is an important page in the International Veterinary Passport.

The prescription of the drug for fleas and ticks should be no later than 10-14 days before traveling abroad; for helminths – no later than 24-48 hours before traveling.

Next to the stickers, the date and time of treatment are indicated in a special column, and the column for the doctor’s signature and the seal of the veterinary clinic is also filled in.

Analysis for the presence of antibody titer against the rabies virus

A rabies antibody titer test is a laboratory test that allows you to determine the level of antibodies against rabies, that is, to find out whether your animal is protected after vaccination. If the antibody titer is lower than the established norm, the animal must be re-vaccinated against rabies. The formation of immunity is influenced by a number of factors: breed, species, age, frequency of vaccination, etc.

It is possible to conduct an analysis for rabies antibodies only 30 days after the last vaccination. When vaccinated, the animal becomes fully protected from the disease 28 days after its administration. Therefore, it is necessary to vaccinate no earlier than 30 days before sampling and no later than a year before the study (the possibility of conducting the test in the following time interval: after 30 days from vaccination against rabies and up to 9 months).

Form 1-VET

The main document that gives the right to transport pets (dogs, cats, rabbits, ferrets and birds).

The veterinary certificate is exchanged for an international veterinary certificate at the state border of Ukraine, by representatives of the state veterinary service at the border and in transport.

Animal owners are issued a veterinary certificate form 1-VET only if they have an International Veterinary Passport indicating the chipping, vaccination dates and vaccine names, as well as a document testing for the presence of antibodies to the rabies virus.

The HAB.VET team draws attention: from January 1, 2012, in accordance with the requirements of the European Union, the animal will be able to cross the border at least 3 months after the date of blood sampling for the analysis of the antibody titer to the rabies virus. The document is issued to the owner no earlier than 5 days before the animal is moved abroad after a clinical examination of the animal and if the owner has all the documents.

Licensed container

A licensed container for transporting an animal that can be securely locked.

After preparing the documents, it is worth taking care of transporting animals. For those traveling by train, bus or plane, it is better to purchase a special container that must meet the requirements of IATA (International Air Transport Association) and fit the animal in size.

The height of the container should be equal to the height of the pet’s standing position, and the width should be equal to its double width; the length is equal to the length of the body plus half the length of the paw. The bottom of the container in which the animal is transported must be covered with absorbent material. Air access must be ensured. Wooden containers are not accepted. Control is carried out during check-in, and if the animal’s cage does not meet the specified requirements, the pet is not allowed on board the aircraft.

We recommend using carrier bags for short trips or when traveling by public transport.

Those traveling by their own car can transport the animal: • in a container; • on the back seat and preferably covered with a car hammock; • not closed in the trunk, using a car mat.

The main thing is that there are no objects near the animal that could injure it. Also, it is worth taking care of safety while driving: so that the animal does not jump onto the driver while driving – buy a special net for the car interior or clothespins, which are used for our pets when transporting cars and serve as a seatbelt
