Infectious Diseases Department in Kyiv

Infectious diseases of animals are diseases caused by various microorganisms, such as viruses, bacteria, fungi or parasites. Such diseases are often highly contagious and can spread rapidly among animals, and sometimes to humans (zoonotic infections). It should also be noted that the course of the diseases varies from mild to severe, complicated and critical conditions.

Viral infections

An acute disease that affects the digestive system. This form is the most common and is considered dangerous for young puppies and can lead to a critical condition. The cardiac form is a rare form of canine parvovirus that affects the heart muscle – causing myocarditis.

Causes respiratory disease in cats, accompanied by nasal discharge, mouth ulcers, and general weakness.

Transmitted through the bites of infected animals and can infect various species of mammals, including humans. Rabies attacks the nervous system, causing aggression, paralysis, and is always fatal.

It affects the immune system of cats, making them vulnerable to other infections.

Bacterial infections

A bacterial disease transmitted through water or food contaminated with the secretions of infected animals. Affects the kidneys and liver, and is also dangerous to humans.

An infection that affects the digestive system of animals and can be transmitted to humans through contaminated food. Causes diarrhea, fever, and vomiting.

A chronic bacterial infection that can affect many animal species and be transmitted to humans. It causes reproductive problems, weakness, and fever.

Fungal infections

A fungal disease of the skin, fur, and nails that often affects cats and dogs. Contagious to other animals and humans.

A fungal infection that affects the respiratory tract and occurs in birds as well as some mammals.

It can manifest in the mouth as white patches on the mucous membranes, making feeding difficult. It can also cause skin and gastrointestinal infections in cats, dogs, and rabbits.

Parasitic infestations

These are diseases caused by parasites that can infect various organs and tissues of animals. They are caused by helminths (worms), protozoa, ectoparasites (fleas, ticks).
– Giardia infection can cause watery, mild, sometimes periodic diarrhea in all species of animals, which leads to exhaustion of the body and complicates the work of other organs:
– Toxocariasis
– Ascariasis
– Strongyloidiasis

External or ectoparasites include a wide range of parasitic arthropods that taxonomically belong to the subclass Acari (mites and acariform mites) and the class Insecta (fleas, lice, nits, mosquitoes, flies and mosquitoes) and Phlebotomus (sand fleas). They can cause damage skin, cause immunopathological reactions, are carriers of various pathogenic forms.
